Horizontal Confined Space Entry & Rescue Systems
Horizontal confined space entry and rescue can present specific challenges, particularly where workers need to enter tanks, pipes, culverts and other restricted spaces through a side opening. Finding a practical anchorage and recovery solution can be difficult where conventional overhead davit systems are not suitable.
NZ Access has developed a portable engineered solution designed to support horizontal confined space entry, fall protection and worker retrieval. The system combines the BTS Mobile Anchor Cube (MAC) with a portable horizontal anchor mast and an IKAR fall arrest block with an integrated recovery winch, providing a configurable solution for suitable horizontal entry and rescue applications.
The counterweighted base requires no permanent fixation and can be moved between suitable work areas, making it a practical option for civil construction, water and wastewater infrastructure, utilities and industrial maintenance. The MAC system can also be configured for selected open-edge fall protection applications, including work around trenches and excavations.
NZ Access can help assess your site requirements and determine whether this system is suitable for your access and rescue needs, including the appropriate configuration and associated equipment.

- Portable Engineered Solution – Provides a practical option for horizontal and side-entry confined space applications where conventional overhead davit systems may not be suitable.
- Horizontal Entry & Retrieval – Designed to support worker access and retrieval through suitable horizontal or side-entry openings.
- Integrated Fall Protection & Recovery – Configurations can incorporate an IKAR fall arrest block with an integrated recovery winch.
- No Permanent Fixation Required – The counterweighted BTS Mobile Anchor Cube (MAC) provides a portable base option without requiring permanent structural fixing.
- Flexible System Configuration – Components can be selected to suit the entry point, working environment and intended retrieval arrangement.
- Portable Between Work Areas – The base can be relocated between suitable work locations, subject to site conditions and the system's requirements.
- Versatile Applications – Can be configured for selected confined space entry, worker retrieval and open-edge fall protection applications.
- Application-Specific Support – NZ Access can help assess site requirements and identify a suitable configuration, including associated equipment and rescue considerations.
- Tanks & Reservoirs – Suitable configurations may support access and retrieval for maintenance, inspection and cleaning inside tanks and reservoir structures.
- Pits, Chambers & Restricted Spaces – Provides a potential solution where side-entry access makes conventional vertical retrieval systems impractical.
- Water & Wastewater Infrastructure – Can be considered for suitable utility assets, treatment facilities and restricted-access infrastructure.
- Pipes, Culverts & Underground Assets – Supports assessment of access and rescue arrangements for suitable horizontal or side-entry environments.
- Civil Construction & Infrastructure – Can be configured for selected temporary access and retrieval requirements on infrastructure projects.
- Trenches & Excavations – Selected configurations may support fall protection around exposed edges and suitable retrieval arrangements.
- Industrial Maintenance – Provides a potential option for restricted-access maintenance and inspection tasks where a portable anchorage solution is required.
The suitability of each application depends on the entry geometry, structural and ground conditions, anchorage requirements, retrieval path and rescue plan. NZ Access can help assess these factors and determine whether the system is appropriate for your site.
